What is Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disease caused by the destruction of brain cells that produce dopamine, a chemical the brain uses to direct physical movement. Without these cells, the body can’t produce dopamine; without dopamine, the brain can’t tell the body how to move. This may lead to symptoms including tremors, stiffness, slow movement, and impaired balance. It can also cause skin problems, sleep disruption, difficulty chewing or swallowing, and depression.
Each individual may experience symptoms differently. Your doctor will be able to discuss symptoms, diagnosis and prognosis. We want to be part of your team and collaborate with families to support you.
